Wordpress anyone?

Posted by j@ere.my on May 4, 2007 in Uncategorized

So, I always prefer using my own systems instead of relying on free services.. so this might just be my answer to using MySpace for my blog..

I’ll be doing some experimenting.. and hopefully it’ll work out.

the end.

Posted by admin on May 1, 2007 in Uncategorized
there are a mere six weeks of class left, and then i’ll be finished. it’s kind of hard to believe, really, but i can’t wait either. i’m so tired of the class/work routine, and i’m ready to just dedicate myself to one thing at a time. of course, i’m probably deluded to think that i’ll have any more free time when i’m working 40 hours per week, but one can dream, right?

despite my distaste for school in these last days, i continue to browse information about graduate programs. i am certainly not ready to jump into class again so soon, but i am envious of those i know who are moving on to persue graduate studies full-time immediately after undergrad. i really do want to continue on, and do something for my personal enjoyment/satisfaction. i guess for now i’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the coming months and years to decide how to go about it

slumlords

Posted by admin on Apr 27, 2007 in Uncategorized
I dare not believe there is a single landlord in existence who maintains the ethics and decency that anyone of the human race should.

I moved out of my apartment on February 28. Since the law allows one month to return the security deposit, I know I would be waiting until the very last hours of March before received anything from Berger Real Estate.

The day finally arrived, and much to my surprise the envelope contained only a letter. It stated that I would not be receiving the deposit back, as I was still in the apartment on the third of March. Funny thing, since Gail helped me move the last of my things on Wednesday the 28th.

I promptly called the landlord and inquired about the error. In his normal fashion, he quickly sputtered out a response to call the building manager and hung up on me. I do not take kindly to his hangups. I did, however, follow up on his directions.

After talking the manager through the situation, I coaxed him to say the words I needed him to say. He finally admitted that he had not seen me after the end of the month. Ironic, huh?

I called back Berger and explained to him my conversation with Curtis. I think he knew I’m a persistent b*tch, and conceded to return the deposit. Though I had one and felt accomplished, I knew this would not be the last conversation with Arnold Berger.

Two weeks past, and nothing came to my door. I knew this was going to happen and was prepared for a fight. I called the office on numerous occasions. I sensed that he knew he had wronged me, as he never returned my calls. I was persistent and continued to call until the phone was answered. On several occasions Stuart, Arnold’s brother answered. He told me he didn’t handle check and that Arnold would return on Monday; he then promptly hung up the receiver. Talk about customer service.

I called on the Monday following. Much to my surprise, there was no fight, and Arnold stated that he didn’t know why the check hadn’t gone out yet; it was sitting right on his desk.

Another week went by and nothing showed up. I again called on Friday, and only got Stuart to answer. He again directed me to call Arnold on Monday. This time, I received a nasty response, “I ain’t the postal service.” I was encouraged that perhaps this time he had actually mailed the check.

Finally, I received the check yesterday. It’s about time. I have half a nerve to send a certified letter back, asking for the interest earned on the deposit, as is required by Landlord/Tenant laws.

I’m still not sure what I’m going to do, but I would love to share this feedback about Berger Real Estate with all future tenants in their buildings. These guys are scum. I knew it from the very beginning.

the last drop has failed me Current mood: grumpy

Posted by admin on Mar 19, 2007 in Uncategorized
well folks, it’s happened. the last drop, my favorite eclectic, artsy and bohemian coffee shop, has taken a step in the wrong direction. i’m quite disgusted, and might consider locating another venue for my nighttime coffee fix.

today, as i arrived at the shop, i was greeted with a neon yellow sign stating “Restrooms are for customers only.” I find that grossly offensive. If they want to go that route, why not just have bathroom keys like so many other center city locations? I feel that it really detracts from the welcoming appeal of the last drop.

As I began to recover from the collection of conspicuously placed signage, on the door, on the walls, and on the bathroom doors, I sat down in the basement. Something was missing from the place. No longer was the room filled with unmatched comfy chairs either. Bleh! Here I sit on an uncomfortable seat that on a summer day would be found outside on the sidewalk.

I pulled out my laptop, and it got even worse. The formerly open wireless network now has a security key on it: yet another means of keeping out the non-customer riff-raff.

Now, I understand why they decided to do this. Obviously, they need to make their money, and having broke college kids sit around and hork their internet access and take seats from paying customers is not a helpful thing to keep the cash flowing at the same rate as the espresso machine. I do, however, think that it’s a detractor to the loyal customers who are sure to make a purchase every time they come, and came to this place in an effort to avoid the corporate-ness of a competing store.

Just my two cents.

hey.

Posted by admin on Mar 5, 2007 in Uncategorized
Hi there.

I’ve been really boring lately, apparently. But, in actuality, life has been insanely busy.

For starters, I began life as a commuter. A couple weeks ago, my great friends helped pack up my apartment and move everything back to my parents house. It was a bit crazy, but I’m really thankful for all the help I had. Cleaning up was pretty bad, due to the fact that former roomie never made any effort to clean anything. Some parts of the job were downright disgusting. I await my deposit return from the landlord, and any grumpy conversations that may need to be had regarding his misjudgement of the condition of the unit.

Being a commuter is hectic. There is no parking at Drexel during the day. I made the mistake of driving in one day, and spent half an hour looking for a spot… disgusting. Since then I’ve taken the train in for my daytime classes. I really can’t wait for my next and last term. I’ve consolidated all of my classes into three days instead of four, which should make things easier. I’m still having a struggle deciding whether I want to enrich my mind with a sociology class in the morning, or enrich my sleeping habits by not taking it. I might just try it for a week and see.

Work has been tiring and fantastic all at once. It’s really exciting as I begin to step into the shoes I’ll fill beginning in July after graduation.

Saturday was a retirement for my friends and supporters Hobe and Mary Jeanne. It was a really great time, and it was really cool to be able to make a big deal of an event for them.

Now I’m sitting in Accounting class. I was in a near death state when I first turned on my laptop. The wireless connection was not working. No way could i have made it through a four-hour class without Internet access to back me up. Thank goodness a quick reboot brought us back into working order.

So.. only two more weeks left of this term.. and then off we go into the final term of my college education. Finally.. at long last… it has come within reach… So, I’ll probably get hit by a bus next Tuesday. At least I have a life insurance policy now…

community as a consumer advocate

Posted by admin on Feb 2, 2007 in Uncategorized
I really love when I see the kind of story I saw tonight on Slashdot.

Apparently, a user of Lycos e-mail had their old messages deleted. First, customer support tried to charge a $20 fee to restore the messages. Later, the snotty customer service representative, who claimed to be the “Manager of all Customer Support”, Michael Jandreau, informed that user that the emails had been deleted and could not be restored now.

I really love when consumers have post such correstpondences on the Internet for all to see. The feedback is amazing.

A response was posted on another site:

I really wish this kind of reaction could be had for all the troubles companies put customers through.
